Research & Career-Building
Once you have a few schools in mind, visit their analytics institutes. For example, Georgia Tech’s Institute for Data Engineering and Science (IDEaS) and KSU’s Center for Statistics and Analytical Research (CSAR) host a number of useful events & conferences and collaborate with industry partners on cutting-edge research. Georgia Southern has established an Institute for Insight and a separate Karl E. Peace Center for Biostatistics and Survey Research. And students in UGA’s Business Analytics groups, Big Data Analytics Lab and the Data Intensive and Pervasive Systems (DIPS) are all actively working on projects & initiatives. Business-minded analytics professionals may also want to investigate Georgia Southern’s Center for Business Analytics and Economic Research (CBAER).
Atlanta is swarming with analytics & data science meetups (e.g. Data Science ATL)—you should be able to find a group for almost every interest. Big-name conferences like INFORMS and SIGKDD may occasionally drop into the town, but you should also keep an eye on the events calendar at the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG).
