Once you have a few programs in mind, ask about analytics initiatives & institutes. As you might expect, North Carolina schools with the biggest pockets have the most interesting resources. Duke’s Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability runs a Energy Data Analytics Lab and the Department of Computer Science is active in many areas of data science research. Over at NC State, you’ll find the Institute for Advanced Analytics, Center for Geospatial Analytics, and Laboratory for Analytics Sciences (LAS).
Plus there’s UNC. UNC Charlotte’s groundbreaking School of Data Science has close ties to industry partners. The area is swarming with networking opportunities, including plenty of analytics meetups & communities. UNC Charlotte hosts the Analytics Frontiers Conference and the Charlotte Women in Data Science (WiDS) Conference. NC State organizes an annual LAS Summer Conference on Applied Data Science (SCADS) and the International Conference on Climate Informatics.
